Fellowship Field Trip - Holocaust Center

Reply to Carmela Ramaglia

The Holocaust Center for Humanity will be exhibiting the North America Premiere of the Anne Frank – Let Me Be Myself Exhibit.  The Fellowship Committee has organized a personal tour for our Club on Sunday, March 18th – 11:30am.

The exhibition shows the story of Anne Frank from her birth in 1929 up to her death in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945.

Anne Frank is a Jewish girl who has to go into hiding during World War Two to escape from the Nazis. Together with seven others she hides in an attic area of a home in Amsterdam. After more than two years in hiding they are discovered and deported to concentration camps. Anne’s father, Otto Frank, is the only one of the eight people to survive. After her death Anne becomes world famous because of the diary she wrote while in hiding.

Space on our tour is limited – please RSVP as soon as possible.

The Holocaust Center for Humanity is located at 2045 – 2nd Avenue, Seattle.

Poverty Bay Wine Festival 2016

by Paul Osborn

largeThe Des Moines Rotary Club invites you to help celebrate the 12th annual Poverty Bay Wine Festival.  The atmosphere will be lively with entertainers and strolling musicians, but this year’s event will be all about the wine, with a wine tasting competition, a wine toss and a more relaxed atmosphere for meeting and learning from some of the best winemakers around.

Wine Festival Tickets $35.00 includes ten tasting tokens (tastings range from 1 – 3 tokens). Additional tasting tokens available for $1.00.

As always, 100% of the net revenues generated by this event are used to fund the charitable activities of the Des Moines Rotary Club.

Mar 04, 2016 @ 05:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Mar 05, 2016 @ 12:00 PM – 09:00 PM

Fireside Chat with Mark Hough

Reply to Carmela Ramaglia

Join our very own Mark Hough in the Glendale Bar after our January 15th meeting to hear more stories of his time overseas. Mark spoke on “Implementing US Foreign Policy – Nurturing the Rule of Law in Two Very Different Post-Conflict Countries” last November. One meeting was not long enough to hear about his experiences, what he learned, and what perspectives he can offer. So join us in a “follow-up” discussion of his time abroad.

New Announcement!

by Paul Osborn

Carmela, dressed as traditional Bavarian-waitress – announced Oktoberfest – which evidently starts in September in some parts of the world.

The actual celebration at the BBRC however, is on October 24th. Deep in the Ratskeller there will be fancy-dress party.

The Anniversary Party is on November 14th – so make sure that is marked on the calendar, so your spouse doesn’t book the Opera that night. It will be in the really classy Overlake Country Club.

See website for more details!
